Would this be a suitable tank for a betta?

It seems a good size, but I just wanted to make sure.

Yes, but I wouldn't go any smaller than 2.5 gallon. I have 1 Betta and 1 small cory catfish in 2.5 gallon. They both are healthy and happy in it. Just be sure to do frequent water changes. It is a nice little tank.

I have two of those tanks. They work great, but I don't care for the filter as it's large and takes up quite a bit of space so mine isn't filtered. (:

I'm still newer to betta fish ownership but that is the tank I have and my betta (Jude) seems to love it. The lid covers almost the whole top except for a small 1"x2" opening in the back for cords. While Jude had to swim harder while around the filter he never seemed to be struggling. However he does seem to be a happier camper since I added the baffle from the thread linked below. Strangely, he seems to like swimming between the filter outlet and the baffle. Note that when the water level is too high the filter will pump the water over the filter cartridge instead of through it. The light in the hood is poorly designed in that half of it is actually blocked by the filter but Jude seems to like the shade the filter provides (his favorite hiding spot being the leaves under the filter). Jude swims every inch of the tank so I think he loves all the extra room (especially compared to the cup he was living in before). My Betta Bow 2.5 didn't come with a divider but I don't mind because I wasn't going to use it anyways. I didn't try the Betta Bowl Plus but Jude loves the Aqueon Betta Food. The set up guide was pretty informative with regard to general fish tank care. So while I don't have any experience with other tanks my experiences with this one have been good.

i wouldnt have just one cory as they are schooling fish and do better in groups.

and regarding the filter I would put a filter sponge over it to reduce the current cause it stresses out the betta.
