Question Very weird quirk!

I just rescued a beatiful double tail boy from petco, he is a very light greyish blue. I wanted to see if he'd flare, so I put his cup by Hiroshi's tank. Hiroshi went NUTS! my new boy didn't flare at all, but I could actually SEE his color changing from silvery grey to steel-blue, almost black, and his normally horizontal stripes turned vertical! it literally happened in like 20 seconds even his striped eyeballs turned black! is this normal, or do I own a rare chameleon/betta hybrid?

Wow that's really cool! Like an octopus betta :P
Have you ever seen that video on octopus camouflage? It's unbelievable!
My betta doesn't ever flare. Not even if I put a mirror right in front of him. Clearly he just wants to be friends with himself :P
