first attempt= failure

Well i attempted to breed my Giant PK siblings last night, seemed like it was working at first but after the girl got nipped a few times she went into hiding. He did build a nice nest, and would dance by her, but she was just too terrified to come out. She got nipped a few more times as he was trying to prod her out so she's pretty shredded now. She was in the tank just over 12 hours. May try again later tonight with a different female.

Here's some vid of the initial courtship.

Did you have her in a vase or chimney first or did you just add her to the tank?

I ask because each pair is different and some kinda need the chimney/vase to feel secure. Lovely pair by the way <3

beautiful pair

but how beat up was she? females would always get torned up. and if she was just nipped you could've let her in there for 2 more days

with the plakats add a TON of plants, because the male can follow the female into her hiding places. and good luck on your next try

there's quite a bit of wisteria in there, not a whole lot of room in there for more plants.

She's quite shredded. not body damage but her fins are in pieces.

I used the cups that i had from some petsmart bettas i have. Let him out first and watched him for wagging before i let her out like the video on the top of this board shows.

For the most part he would swim to her flaring, turn and wag his body and swim to his nest, blow a couple bubbles and repeat. Once every so often he would take a run at her as all she would do is sit in whatever hiding spot she picked out. My plan was to wait at least 24 hours but she was just getting too shredded. I was afraid she'd have no fins left if i let it go on.

think i'm going to try again with the same female tonight. I think i probably should have waited till he built a nest to let her out, but instead i did what the video said.

Should i have removed the male as well before attempting again?
