A Walmart Challenge

Today while at Walmart with my younger sister (to get a present) I stopped to browse the bettas.... (of course) ..... as I was looking at them.... I realized... many of these bettas will not live to see a new home... and many more will not survive in a new home due to neglect and improper care...

So I decided to do something.

I took a picture of every betta there.... and here they are..

This is to the Walmart bettas

The bettas who are unique in their own way

The bettas who are waiting

The bettas who are "bland"... their colors washed out from stress

The bettas who are thin and cold as they sit on a shelf

The bettas who have no hope

The bettas who are to weak to move

The bettas who are trying to stay strong

The bettas who struggle to stay afloat

But most of all

This is to the Walmart bettas who have fought the odds and have survived this place, who have gone on to a new home, with heated tanks, clean water, and daily care....

So as a challenge I ask you, my fellow betta lovers, visit your local Walmart, take pictures of the bettas, their conditions, and of any lost, and post them here.... and if you have the space, the time, and the money.... rescue one of these and remember where he came from

Thank you, Im glad, that was my goal, I left my phone at home so I was using my sisters camera (why the bettas at Walmart have a different quality).... I did not have time to take pictures of the dead ones by the sink nor the dead one someone put in with the goldfish....

Great job! Shutting down WalMart is a challenge, but these lil' guys really have pulled through, and I hope they all find good homes.

I've saved 3 Bettas from Walmart.
2 males and 1 female. Now swimming in their own huge tanks.
Sadly though, when I bought one of my males he had fin rot, pop eye, and an infection. When I saw him I just HAD to buy him and nurse him back to health!
So far, his fins are doing alot better and regrowing, his pop eye is gone, and his infection is gone. (:

I used to rescue fish from Walmart but then I realized that I was just encouraging the chain store to continue to sell them so I stopped. I wish there was a way to stop them from selling live fish at all.

Petition.... most of my walmart bettas I got for free or discounted.... I normally get the sickest ones or the ones who are obviously damaged... a few hot words with the manager and I get a discout or free betta.... and after doing this repeaditly PLUS constantly complaining, MY local walmart (there is one 15 mins from me... then there is one 45 mins... the 15 min one is MY walmart...) has changed breeders (after the old breeder kept sending already sick bettas) and now only have 10 at a time, they keep up with water changes and feed them..
