Sapphira flares!

Hi all! I was cleaning out Sapphira, Tango and Brutus' tanks this evening. Just to see what Sapphira would do, I set her cup in Shadowfax's tank for a second. Would you believe she started flaring at Shadow? I couldn't believe it! Minus the beard however, she looked exactly like a male. She had her gill flaps completely out, and Shadowfax was flaring back at her in return.

Now I know she is definitely a female, due to her egg spot, but for a split second, it had me concerned! She doesn't have the male beard though. But she certainly looked good! Talk about feisty!

Oh wow! My female does the same thing if I get too close, or am trying to feed her! Females sure can be spunky.

You know young males can have the egg spot too.... tricky little buggers Bettas are! LOL I saw your pics of her before tho and she is definitely a female. If she doesn't have the under beard gill flaps then she's a girly girl all the way. Also are her ventrals short? My females flare at each other every once in a while. Then I got a "CT female" from Petco and it (I am 99%sure) turned out to be a male... I'm thinking some sort of CT PK... He's really cute. Anywho. it's so cute when the girls flare! Sounds like Saphira is doing great with you!

I just looked back at your last pic of her. 100% lady that one! Just don't ever be fooled by the egg spot. I learned that the hard way... lol

Every description I've read of female bettas fits her to a T, so I'm 100% positive she is a female. Her ventrals are very short! I love it when she relaxes them so they hang down. :) She's just so cute.

My Anna will flare at the boys, the other girls, her reflection, a finger that isn't giving her food... Unfortunately she is super aggressive, and NOT meant for sorority life.

Sapphira is like that too. I would have loved for her to be part of a sorority, but I think she'll end up being too aggressive. lol

There is no think about it, I tried her out.. she didn't last two minutes before she was back in a cup. She had bitten three girls in that time, and I don't mean fin chasing or biting, I mean she bit the body.

Oh gosh, that's awful.

It wouldn't be anytime soon with her, and the more I see about her personality, the more I've pretty much decided she won't be suitable for sorority life. But that's ok, I'll just keep her separate, like I do with my boys. :)
