Hi just giving an update.

His tail is still shrinking away :( the water was at 82 degrees and he hasnt seemed to improve.... I dont know what to do anymore....help?

:( Oh dear. How is his behavior otherwise? Eating and active?

Okay. Let's try a round of Maracyn on him. If that doesn't work and his tail still looks bad but his behavior stays healthy, I'd say he's tailbiting.

his tail is not as black, but its still shrinking :(. hes totally fine, doing his fishy thing haha.

and mmk, ill get some next time im at the store. Hopefully hes not tail biting :(

Yeah, I hope so too. If he's tailbiting, there isn't a whole lot we can do about it. :( I'm glad he's still acting normally, that's the best sign that this isn't a very severe rot.

Are you using just Maracyn? This is for gram positive and most fin rots are gram negative so I wouldn't expect Maracyn to work on fin rot most of the time. Marcyn 2 on the other hand for gram negative bacterial infections would likely work if it is indeed infection.

I'd prefer to start with just Maracyn. I'm not 100% sure it's a strong infection requiring lots of meds so I'd rather not overload his little system just yet. If he's just tailbiting, I hate to have made him sit in strong meds without him needing to. Since his fins are disintegrating in large chunks overnight, Maracyn should be fine for a start.
