I'm afraid the minimum for a sorority is a 10 gallon tank, because you need at least 4-5 girls to spread out the agression, and there isnt room for that in a 5g. They need room to hide and swim away from each other, and only a 10g can provide that.

Have to agree, shouldn't be less then 10 gallons, smaller you run the risk of overloading the bio load, and/or causing the girls to feel "trapped" and create even more aggression. 5 should be the lowest amount of girls in a sorority, 4 beingrisky, but doable in a large enough tank.

A single betta in there with some shrimp, or a snail would work.. or dividing it in half for 2 bettas.

Personally, I wouldn't divide it. Octangonal tanks are usually pretty tall, rather than wide, so not the best shape for dividing. I'd just do a single male. :)

+1 to Myates and BettaFish. No sororities in a 5 gallon.

Erm...you need to get that algae eater out of there pronto. They get 6 inches long and have quite a heavy bioload, so you are putting a lot of pressure on your tank filter. Without very frequent cleaning, you could stunt his growth.

CAE's are also known to suck the slime coat off of other fish.
