We have "Nelson" for over two years. He was my daughters fish. I have had tropical fish most of my life but never a beta. Nelson went to college and has now been back home since January. About a month he started missing the chomps on his food. He sees food a few inches away but can't chomp it when he gets close. He swims, he goes to his feeding spot, he reacts positively when I aproach his tank and he goes all happy when my wife talks to him. He just can't eat. I tried FD blood worms and he chases them around but can't get them in his mouth. This is now day 8 without eating food except for one pellet my wife got him to eat after 20 minutes of attention. Are there any tricks that I can try to get food into Nelson?
Yes - we turn off the filtration when we feed him and the pellets are very small. He is very ill right now. Since Friday, his gills are moving but he does not very often...only to come up for a gulp of air. We are very sad about his condition.
