Betta Toys- Corks?

Hi all,

I'm constantly in search of new "toys" for my bettas. I think I remember someone mentioning floating a cork in the water for their fish to push it around. Is a cork safe to put in the water? I found some at the craft store that are clean and unused, but I still want to make sure before I add any, esp. after my scare of adding driftwood and making one of my boys ill. :-/

Thanks!

Corks should not be an issue as long as you wash them before hand - I use hot water to do this. Don't use ones right off of wine bottles though!! :p

As for driftwood (I recall you having an issue), the way I figure is that you MUST know what kind you have, and if it has been treated for an aquarium or a terrarium. I would just find some myself and cure the heck out of it.

Ping pong balls might be easier to clean, and supply the same form of entertainment :D

So far my bettas haven't been too interested in anything I've tried. Lol I have two tail biters so I'm constantly looking for ideas. I haven't heard of the mirror with the floating ball. Is this found at the big petstores?

Petco has em, petsmart does not as far as I've seen. They're the bomb - the mirroring does wear off after a few months, but they're $6 a pop, so not too bad to replace every so often.

You can also get them on Amazon. They are a little silver floating ball and underneath it there is a little round attic two sided mirror. It floats in water and they can chase it around. Theyare great. Once you start looking up small heater, filters and other betta stuff you should see it as something other people have boaught, if you can't find it directly by looking. I would put a link so you could see it but I don't know how. Most big pet should have it but I know Amazon.com does.
