I got £40 spare to waste, enough for me to buy a small tank, some live plants and a female betta, I always wanted to breed them, and if I do it now I will have enough time to take care of them and get "rid" of them before xmas time, when I travel for a whole month to visit my family...
So, do you think I could give it a try? My local pet store has everything I would need and I have my male on a 10G...
IMO you are going to need a lot more money to properly raise bettas, you need to buy brine shrimp eggs and worm cultures and lots and lots of jars... The start up cost for breeding bettas in the US is usually around $300...
I have the jars and where to put the fry when they reach about 2 months old, that won't be a problem, I also happen to be neighbour of some kids who always tries to come up with a small tent to sell something LOL!
And shrimp eggs are way cheaper here, or any live food actually.
I can buy a big pack of small insect larvae as a live fish food for around £1.
Besides, if I need to spend more later, I have more money, the spare is like "either this or pizza." :V
Well, if you have the money and the time and have done ALL the necessary research then it is up to you. Remember, fry require daily water changes, and once they are jared, it takes a lot of time to do those water changes... It usually takes me 2 hours a day just to do that.
There is a reason I only sell my bettas on Aquabid or to my friends, that way I know they are going to good homes...
