So I am thinking about breeding spot but before I do so, I wanted to get some thoughts on the matter. Its been a long while since I breed a pair of bettas together. I love Spot's coloring and marks even though he is a fishie from wally world. If he would be good for breeding and I can find the right female, I would love to breed him. However, I want to make sure he would be okay to breed.
He doesn't like to hold still for pictures so here is the best ones I have.
The general census on here is going to be "No he's a VT", "No he's from walmart and not a reputable breeder" "No, it sounds like your just breeding him because you want to" But IMO I say go for it. You have to start somewhere and just be prepared for the babies and other's people's opinions. There isn't a VT standard in US, yet, but I think in a few years their might be.
Yes, I was thinking those things but like I said its been a while since I breed. I figured he would be a good fish to get my toes back into the waters with. I've told my one friend who is rather betta crazy if there is such a thing, lol. And she was like I want his babies.
He's the only dalmatian I have seen at walmart and a betta of his color. They normally have the red/blue/purple ones. He was clear at the back and on a self all by himself with rather dirty water. I didn't realize how pretty he was until I got him home.
I made him a clear tunnel yesterday to play in and now the one side of his tank is nothing but bubbles.
He's a beautiful betta, and I have no problem if you use a veil tail, just so long as you don't intend to show in the future. Of course there is always the possibility that the IBC might someday in the future add veil tails to the standard. IDK
Before spawning him make sure you have homes for the fry. Remember VT's are harder to place because they're so common. Also VT is domintate over other fin types so even if you breed to a hm, delta or dt most the fry will be VT. Being a pet store betta it's hard to say what his backround is and he'll probably throw a rainbow of colors. I can tell you that spawning a dalmatian to another dalmatian will not give you spots. I would try to find a light colored or orange female. If you can afford it buy a female from a breeder. I would find a nice doubletail female for him. It will help better their caudal spread and widen their dorsal.
Pitgurl, you read my mind almost. Since the thought of breeding him popped into my mind I've been thinking of finding a DT that was either yellow or orange. And I planned on making sure I had everything in place as far as homes and things like that.
Around this small town, no really sells Bettas, even the small pet store. Walmart is the only place around here to get any Bettas. As I stated before, they are all the soild or multi color of the red/blue/purple combo. So around here, I am sure it will easy to find a home for the little ones being another color than what is offered at Wally world.
He's a little more on the white side then what these pics make him out to be. The darkest part of red on him is the spots on his tail and the rest of his tail is a lighter shade of red kind of redish orange that is more on the red side. Other than that he is almost a orangish/redish pink color. When he moves around or the light hits him, he tends to show a light green along his body and the top of his tail tends to show a bit of yellow.
The reason I was thinking yellow/orange or another light colored female is because how much lighter he is in real life compared to his pictures.
