My plants are COATED in algae. So I want to give them a bleach dip.

I'll do 1 parts bleach 19 parts water. Just wondering, is chlorax okay? I'll rinse the heck out of the plants then place them in a container of water with A LOT of extra conditioner for probably half an hour. Then I'll rinse the heck out of them again and put them in my tank. Sound good?

Personally I'd be afraid to use bleach with anything that will be coming in contact with my boys, but I googled it and found this:

Bleach Safety
There are a couple of critical rules to be aware of when using bleach. Follow them, and you don't have to worry about harming yourself or your fish.

  • Don't mix bleach with any other chemicals. That includes soap, aquarium chemicals, or other cleaning products. Use only bleach and plain water, period.
  • Don't use bleach in concentrations higher than ten percent.
  • Don't soak anything in bleach for longer than fifteen minutes.
I'd wait for other responses, but I'd use white vinegar to clean anything that will be going into my aquariums.
