Was curious if it would be okay if I bought a couple Critter Keeper's (medium size) just to have on hand for quarantine or a home for a Betta? I'm not sure how much water they hold the online store only displays it's dimensions. I think I've seen a couple people here using them, but wasn't sure if they were using them permanently or for other purposes. At my LFS they have these under-gravel heaters I think their 10Watts and I think would be perfect size for a Critter Keeper and I'd really like to have a couple of these things on hand for my impulse Betta buy's or Betta rescues. :tanshades: If this won't work then I'll have to slowly build up 5gal set's. I have the perfect bookshelf to use for both idea's.

I have one that is 1.75 gallons (don't know if its medium or small), and Buster seems fine with it. He'll be going in my 10 gal wants it cycled though. They are great for impulse buys, and are really cheap which is nice (10 dollars), but don't offer much room for tall decorations.

My fish Batman lives in a 3 gallon critter keeper. I tried to put him in a divided 10 gallon but it stressed him out big time..so i got him his own space...He is very happy now. I have a few 1 gallon critter keeprs I keep for QT. 2 gallon cooke jars from walmart make nice betta homes too.. My old guy cleo lived in a heated cookie jar for 8 months.:)

Oh good. I just wanted to pick a couple up sometime just to have with some decor and such, though I've had some people on here give me grief about my bowl being too small which I'll admit is.. so wanted to make sure that a Critter Keeper would be "okay". I know the larger the better, but I would think a Critter Keeper could be sufficient even for long-term temp. I eventually want to get 4 5gal tanks each with 1 boy or girl in it. *really wants some girls* It all becomes expensive so this is a work in progress for me, the keepers would just fill the in-between times.

What about the undergravel filters? Would those work?

I know Tetra brand hasn't had the best of reviews but I found this. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752355 Their cheap enough I could give it a try. I found some mini filters meant for bowls.. not sure if it would fit in a critter keeper well but that's I guess something else I could look into. ;) yay

I'm not sure, but I've heard it isn't reccommended to use heaters in critter keepers. I believe it was somewhere on here. Maybe look into this before buying a bunch. You may have to keep a room quite warm for them.
