Just out of curiosity, because I plan to breed these two anyways, I'm interested in what colors I'll be getting from this pair. My goal is for some dragons, but with the minimal scaling on the female, I have a feeling there won't be a lot with full dragon.
They both look male...
Dragon x non irid marble = metallic multicoloured fish with partial masking. Some may be marble. Probably some lightbodies if both parents are carrying it (red dragon looks to be cambo based dragon)
You wont get any dragon from that spawn since you need 2 dragons for that. If youre after dragon Id at least start with a blue or copper if you cant find a dragon girl, that way you are at least working with two iridescent colours
The boy looks like a standard red dragon: carries "dragon" traits, extended red, yellow iridescence for sure. Without seeing his parents, can't really say anything else.
Need a better photo of the girl; she's a what? Cambodian? Marble? Koi?
Edit: After zooming in the picture... the girl looks like a male too, no visible ovaries. Which one's the girl?
I'm not sure what differentiates a koi from a marble :/ but "she" was supposed to be a girl. However I am still having a really hard time finding an egg spot. Every time I think I see one, the next time I get a chance I don't really see anything. Like I said in another post, I'm new to this type so I was relying basically on the breeder. Whatever they are they're both pretty haha.. Anyways, because the male started a nest I put in a different female that is super eggy so I'll see where that goes..
The first picture looks like two boys. The one in the back seems to be a red dragon. Judging from his full white armory body, he is from a long line of red dragons. Very little light colored rays on fins suggest that his line wasn't mixed (color wise) much OR he inherited more of the red dragon trait.
The red guy might be a red marble - meaning his color changes from (most common sequence) dark/colored to pale then back to dark again. This process may take a couple of weeks to months. If that isn't the case then he isn't a marble, but a guy from a bright red line (often crossed to cambodians).
Try viewing his flaring from above - (compared to the other female) does he have a big head. Does he have a bigger mid section. Does his gill covers open 90*. Males have bigger blunt looking heads, smaller midsection (slimmer), gills open 90*. Females have smaller pointy heads, bigger midsection, and 45-60* gill opening, AND adult females have an egg spot.
To make things simple;
dragon x dragon = dragon
dragon x non dragon = non dragon, metallic (often skipped/not produced), partial dragon.
- TBH I don't really know the genetic make up of dragons - are red dragons merely the dragon version of cambodians or are they of a more complex genetic make up (I'm assuming the later).
- Though theoretically it is said that cambodians are recessive, IME it isn't - in the sense that you will always produce their pattern.
That being said, if crossed to a cambodian or a cambodian patterned female, you will at least get cambodian patterns (light body with red fins but with some irids) and partial red dragons. There will also be other color combos depending on genetic back ground and which genetic make up survived.
IMO the second girl is also cambodian related.
Note: Since this is sort of a trial, I wouldn't suggest crossing a CT to other fin types. You will end up with uneven web reduction - messy fins. Try getting solid fin types (HMPK, HM), preferably another red dragon/partial red dragon. If you want a variety of dragon colors, breed him to other dragon colors.
