In a heated,filtered,cyled tank of five gallons or larger,,3 to 4 years on average. Sadly, most die within a few weeks or months due in large part to being kept in unheated,unfiltered,uncyled tanks that are too small.
Seven years would be rare indeed. Of the approx 65 species that fall under the classification of Betta, the most commomly offered Betta Spendens,,seldom live longer than four years in ideal conditions.
My guy Fish is going on 4 years old and shows no signs of stopping. On a different forum I heard from some people that they had a fish live 5 or 6 years but 7 seemed to be the maximum.
I wouldn't be surprised if a store bought betta had an shorter lifetime, more so if they had been in there for quite a while. Sad, but that's what seems to come out of the info I read.
