I wanted a river rock substrate, but the ones packaged for fish come in bags of like 12 and I need quite a few more than that to cover the floor of my tank. I had someone suggest buying landscaping river rock from Menards and using that, but I wasn't sure if there's anything on them that wouldn't be safe for the fish. Does anyone know or have any suggestions on how to clean them and make them fishy friendly?
I bought my river rocks from Hobby Lobby. You get a ton for cheap. I boiled the rocks really well before I put them in my tank. I've had them awhile with no problems.
Ooh, that sounds like a good plan. I'll go price those on Monday. I bet they have more variety and smaller bags than Menards would. Thanks for the tip!
If you do go to Hobby Lobby, check out the website for a 40% off coupon. They usually have them every other week.
