Does anyone have a link to a good siphon that they use? The siphon I use for my 20 gal tank is too big to use in a fry tank and was just wondering if there was any brand in particular that anyone had a good experience with. The petsmart by me didn't have many options when I briefly looked before.
At the risk of asking a really stupid question - how do you create the suction needed to get it started using airline tubing? I also read that some people put a woman's panty hose over the tubing to prevent fry from getting sucked up, but wouldn't it also prevent a lot of waste from being removed from the tank? Or would they just spot clean everything else and use that strictly to remove the water only?
I use a small tubing. I just suck the end to start the flow (I also would like to know if there's a better way of doing this)... and drip it into a container with a very fine net at the top. This collects all the waste and any fry that manages to get sucked up.
I usually use the sink.. water on low, have it flow into the tubing (generally I do this with my bigger siphons), once water is flowing into the tube, I plug up the other end with my thumb and when it starts to overflow, I plug up the top end with my other thumb. Carry it to the tank, place one end in the tank, the other in the bucket on the ground.
