Hello,

Having trouble figuring out what this is. Other than looking not so good he is completely acting normal. Eating and swimming great. Any ideas?

10 gallon planted tank
Aquaclear 20 filter
Tank is over a year old
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 0
Nitrite - 0
PH - 7.4
Temp - 78F

Tried api fugus cure but after 1 dose nothing changed. Don't think its that. To be honest it just looks like he is scratching himself up but not sure how. Just live plants and a few rounded rocks in tank.

Definitely doesnt look like ich and I have not witnessed him scratching or darting or anything. Acting pretty normal. Ive dealt with internal parasites before and it was never like this. They usually stop eating, have clear/white poop and start losing weight.

Debating whether or not to start medicating for a bacterial issue. Ive been in the fish hobby for over 20yrs now and have never seen this. It is getting worse so I need to do something. Just don't know what.

I would treat him with a medicine that's for all in one like API "PIMAFIX" I saw this at Petsmart. I have no idea if it works. Also on the meds, as you know you have had fish longer than I have, clean the tank, filter out and try the other medication. I hope he gets better! I know he needs a break in between. What about those fluke worms..ooh like you said you didnt think its internal. Maybe something is bothering him about a plant? How old is he?

just because I'm not sure either.
