Don't use feeder blocks. They'll make the water filthy and your betta probably won't eat it.
How long are you leaving for? He'll be fine with no food for a couple of days, I wouldn't worry about it unless you're going away for an extended period of time.
Bettas can go for two weeks without food, sometimes more, so while he will be grumpy I don't think it's necessary to feed him more. The more you feed him the more ammonia he will create. If he is in a cycled ten gallon or more you can feed more, but 5g and below and I wouldn't reccomend it
Completely agree with everyone. I left Rubbie for almost a week (I didn't know my son would be admitted into the hospital) and he was grouchy, but he did fine. I called someone to go feed him every day but they didn't. So 4 days is fine. But do make sure to do the wc before and after.
