On Yahoo I read about someone saying the Bacteria only grows in filters were genetically modified for the colors said she managed to keep male with 5 females and gouramis/Paradise fish could not be kept with bettas because they are are air breathers there are plenty of air breather that could be kept with bettas but those too would probably be bad choices. Also said all Bettas are Mutts.
A friend of mine has a male Betta with two females and two dwarf Gourami and everyone gets along perfectly. It always depends on the temperament of the individual fish.
Well the Bettas we have in stores aren't exactly what I would call genetically modified, but they all have been bred in certain ways so that it would seem that way.. I mean, Giant Halfmoons are so much different from the wild Bettas.. But that would be the same thing as the difference of a Timber Wolf and a Chihuahua, it's all just selective breeding.
Yeah they do make good pets. But it matters what the cross is.
