I got a new heater because the old one stopped working and in the directions it says to do this when changing water
"Please cut off the power when changing water or place and operate 10 minutes later"
Does that mean to unplug it when changing the water and wait to put it back in 10 minutes later. I normally do 100% water changes. It also says this
"During heating the water, you can not take out the item directly,or it will danged the heater"
Yes. All heaters and filters should be unplugged during water changes. Failing to unplug the heater can cause it to burn out and break (or worse, explode). I unplug the heater about 5 minutes before I do a water change to allow it to cool while in the water. I then turn it and my filter back on about 10-20 minutes after the water change is complete.
Yes always unplug it before a water change and wait a few mins. and dont forget to plug it back up when finished I am always afraid I will forget that, and the filter too.
Never ever run a heater when it is out of the water. Always be sure to put it in the water and then plug it in. Running a heater out of water will cause it to break.
Oh okay good. The water i pour in seems to be warmer because the overall aquarium temp goes up a couple degrees after a water change. The water is cool to the touch but i guess thats because im about 98 degrees, right?
Haha! Ya the touch test isn't always the best gauge of water temp. My tanks feel cold in the summer and warm in the winter, but the temperature stays the same year round!
Ya. In the wintertime when the tap water cools down, avoid pouring it directly on the heater or warm it up before adding it to the tank. Cold water on the heater would have a similar effect as pouring hot water on a frozen windshield to defrost it!
what is a good water heater? I want to get one for my 1.5 gal tank. The water is at 72 degrees F for my betta. He is pretty active at the temp. Should I add a heater and what is a better temp?
