I have a fluval edge which I plan on using to house a betta fish (of course) and was wondering which substrate would be better...

I suppose I could get either but I've never had fish or anything before. From what I read so far with my setup I plan on getting one of those substrates, a heater, perhaps some silk plants and a little terra cotta pots. And maybe if I can fit in there a betta log :) Already upgraded the halogen lights to LED lights aswell. If any of you have seen a fluval its supposed to fill up all the way and is enclosed, for my betta I plan to just lower the water level line so he can breathe.

Say whhhat? In a bag of 4? Thats almost a dollar a rock haha highway robbery! and thanks I think thats pretty too Drift but I think Imma stick with the black substrate. :D I figure it'll make whatever any color betta I chose pop a little more and won't clash so much if I get red or blue stuff. Thats what I'm guessing tho :S if that makes sense

They're pretty well rounded when I looked at them in the store, but they're not super smooth either.
But yeah, there's only a few in the bag and they're kinda larger in size.
I just use the regular natural looking pebbles as they typically cheaper and I have a planted aquarium. :)
They have all sorts of lovely painted colors too.

Thats's cool, I'm super (I dont know if the words are anal or ocd lol) but spacefic when it comes to color coordination I think that's why I'm thinking so much about it. I don't plan on having a planted tank just yet, maybe a little later though!
Does petco or petsmart havent better substrate?

this one is nice kinda: http://s.petco.com/Assets/product_images/8/800443042274C.jpg

i absoultly love those tanks!!! there is one setup at an aquarium store near me and i ooo and ahh everytime. theyre just a little pricey for me. But on the gravel note, i just bought a 10lb bag of that same "miami" style rocks from petsmart last week, it was enough to cover the bottom of my 10g, and was only about $7.

it would just be the "river rock" selection
