I posted a thread about my new Betta about a week ago, as he was floating strangely and wouldn't eat. Since no one answered and his symptoms went away, I didn't treat him for anything. He resumed eating and swimming like normal and seemed healthy. Today, I did a 100% water change, rinsed everything off, and added a couple live plants to his tank. I used water conditioner and let him float for 20 minutes before placing him in.
As soon as I placed Bird in the tank, he freaked out and started swimming on his side and then buried himself under the gravel. I put him back into the cup with a lowered water level and he continued to swim sideways and freak out.
I'm so scared. What is this? What can I do to help him?
He was a beautiful boy too! For him to pass away so quickly, I would guess that it is environmental factors causing him to possibly went into some sort of system shut down by the way he swam. If you would like us to figure out if there is anything that could have caused this and also for future reference, fill out the sticky questionnaire regarding the care he had received so far. My guess is it's either extreme temperature change, or water chemistry (very different from his old water). But I have no experience with this, hopefully someone else can help you figure out what went wrong so that you can prevent this from happening again.
You make me cry when I read yoour ‘’Goodbye,Bird’’. Let people figure out what was the problem. If you love betta that much you need to rescue another one. But i think you need to figure out what was wrong first. Sorry for your loss.
Sorry everyone i am not sure if i am allowed to do that but i found the post where Oiseau filled out the sticky so i decided to post it again ... I am afraid that people will get mad at me. It looked like Oiseau was doing everything right. I am wondering if betta was sick at the begging. I don’t know about drooping tail though…
I've had my new betta for about a week now and I'm a little worried about him. He wouldn't eat for the first few days, but I figured he was just adjusting to the new tank etc, then ate for two days, and now has gone back to not eating. Then, when I came home today, his backside was drooping quite low. He wasn't having troubles swimming (only drooping when still), but I did a 100% water change and cleaned out all his ornaments, etc. Now the drooping backside has gone. :/
Housing What size is your tank? Approx 3g What temperature is your tank? 76 Does your tank have a filter? No Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No Is your tank heated? Yes What tank mates does your betta fish live with? None

Water Parameters: Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?
Symptoms and Treatment How has your betta fish's appearance changed? His tail was drooping lower than his front, but it's not happening any more. How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Not eating. When did you start noticing the symptoms? Not eating - a couple days ago. Drooping tail - about an hour ago. Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? 100% water change with conditioner. Does your fish have any history of being ill? Not since I got him. How old is your fish (approximately)? No idea. I've had him a week.
Drooping tail = drooping butt. Don't know why I put tail instead.
I believe he was unwell when I bought him and the stress from our move this weekend probably didn't help. I did a 50% water change on Saturday and Sunday, so I thought he'd be okay with the water. I acclimated him and the water in his cup was the same as in the tank, so I don't think that was it.
Thanks Anhel123 for posting Oiseau's original post, save me the time to search for it!
Oiseau, seems like you had done everything by the book. The only unknown is the water parameters ie ammonia, nitrites etc from the water source which I strongly suggest you should get your own test kit if you are going to have another try. I suspect that he could have an internal infection that was also affected his ability to control his swim bladder.
I am sorry for your loss. I hope your next experience will be a lot more rewarding and happy.
Cheers!
