Hi, I'm looking to move my veil-tail betta into a larger aquarium (Hes in a non-filtered, non-heated 1 1/2g bowl now) I keep him on my desk while I work, so anything over 3g will be kind of pushing it on footprint size. Generally hes a very active and inquisitive fish. I feed him 2 types of flake foods (just for a little variety) but I think he would be happier in a larger tank. I live in southern california, the room temperature is around 70-80F most of the year, but a small heater would probably be best for consistency.
I have been looking at mainly
http://www.petco.com/product/12351/Aqueon-Aquarium-Mini-Bow-25-Gallon-Acrylic-Aquarium-Kit.aspx
because the dimensions fit the space on my desk almost perfectly. I will only keep one fish in that, because 2.5 seems a little small (and defeats the purpose) for two
along with this 25W heater, which seems to have many favorable reviews

I have little experience with bettas and filter/heater setups, so I'm not sure if the filter/heater in that tank is adequate or....
Also, a couple questions
1) What kind of water changes/schedule should i follow? 25%?
75%, bi-weekly?
2) Can I use some generic aquarium strips (the ones that are normally available at petsmart/petco) to check PH levels? Or should I invest in a full test kit? (If so, what am I looking for ? )
3) Is there a guide for setting up a heater in a small aquarium?
I'm completely blank starting this off, any help is appreciated thanks
