Well my sister finally caved in and got a red crown tail male. She used my old 2.5 gallon.
She has 2 silk plants and a decor of a ruined ship that has silk plants on it.
The tank came with a under gravel filter, which she is using. Planing on doing water changes of course.
Also she has a heater that is keeping the water at 78.
Thank you. It was something simple and cheap to do real quick. He seems to like it.
She named him, she is 18. So it is about time for her to get the betta bug.
The only thing that concerns her is he freaks out when she turns her light off in the room but keep his tank light on her flares and just goes nuts non stop.
He's beautiful, love the tank! My CT boy does that too. It's because when the light is on on the tank, the light only bounces off the walls and into darkness. He can't really see outside of the tank anymore, so he sees his reflection more clearly. I think that's waht it is.
Better than being in a small cup.
he hasn't ate yet but I figured it may take a day for him to get comfortable enough to eat. I have betta flakes, pellets and freeze dried blood worms that I use for my halfmoon so I told my sister we can share the food since it is alot.
It's way better than being in a cup, I assure you. Sometimes bettas don't eat right away. One of the forum members, his betta took 2 weeks to start eating, but now he's a lil pig! Hehe. I'm sure he'll perk up. And that's a good idea, sharing food.
I have one more tank that is a 5 gallon with a filter and heater, gravel, plants. That is just sitting around but I do not have the time for one more at the moment. Most likely I'll be helping my sister out with hers since it is her first fish. She sees what I do and she helps when I need it. But I don't mind doing the dirty work to keep fish.
Yeah 5 gallons are a good size for a betta. The only reason my sister used the 2.5 instead of the 5 is because the 5 gallon is a bit scuzzy and she didn't feel like scrubbing it and it is a kritter keeper so she didn't like the look.
Wow, that fish is stunning!! The red is an incredible color- and the CT fins are beautiful..I love your tank, too. It' looks bigger than a 2.5. I like the decor. So nice of you to help your sister out, too...
Just an update, he ate some flakes. But the I am not sure with the temp, the thermoter reads 78 but it doesn't feel like it compared to my tank which is the same. Posted via Mobile Device
He is such a stunning red. He really stands out against the decor. Where did you find the ship? I've been looking for one. The only one I've found is at Petsmart but the openings are too small for my fish.
Well Wilbur did not make it. I am not to sure what happened. He was my sisters responsibilty, so I left it up to her. I did notice the other day that he looked bloated and told my sister what she needed to do. I am not positive if she did it or not. But last night he was laying dead on the bottom of his tank.
I feel bad for the guy but I thought my 18 year old sister would of been able to take care of a fish. She kept the water at 78, cleaned the tank, fed him. I know she tended to feed him to much.
