My betta is trying to swim like a dolphin

So my betta likes to swim around the outsides of him tank almost pressed right up against the wall (it's a five gallon bowl). But what he has started doing is clamping his ventral fins to his sides instead of letting them hang down and trying to swim by pumping his tail up and down like a dolphin or whale.
At first I thought maybe his tail was too heavy because it sometimes looked like he would try and swim down but his tail would weigh him down.
Now I've realized that he doesn't always do it, sometimes he just flexes his body in an up and down motion instead of side to side (almost like he is testing out whether or not being a dolphin would be fun).
Has anybody ever had a betta who thought it was a dolphin?

Thanks pinkcupid765, I thought my betta was having an identity crisis :p
And thanks MissFutureVet, it's a cross between a veil tail betta and an hourglass dolphin. It was done on an iPad app called sketchbook pro. I figured it really fit the theme of the forum :)
