I use a regular old 2.5 gal tank for QT, it's actually this one.
I would get the 10gal kit, but there is a tetra kit that's $10 cheaper just without the heater. I also bought my kit for $40 at petco with all that stuff in it.
I want a smaller one for QT, simply 'cause I'm not the most careful person in the world and emptying 2.5 gal of whater every day is sure to equal disaster. XD
Yeah. I'll shop around before i get it. Just want everyone's opinions, lulz. And if the heater I got will heat a ten gal, I might get it without the heater, 9or if i see a better heater while in store. lulz)
I would go with rectangular tank. Besides having more horizontal swimming area, I also like that regular rectangular tanks don't distort your viewing pane. I had a hex tank like that once and hated it because there were many 'blind spots' I could hardly ever see my fish unless he was directly in front of the middle pane.
I agree with xjenuhfur, but if you didn't want to go with the rectangular 2.5 as a QT.... the minibow is ok as a temp tank, but honestly you could do better for a QT tank. The 10 gallon kits are nice just get a kit that has a fluorescent hood!!!!!!!!!!! (I didn't and I need to replace the darn hood to get any kind of good lighting now. :/)
I have an Aqueon minibow1 as a QT, it was on sale when I got it and I like a lot of their products. The minibow 1 is a bit lacking but it's easy to clean, and it takes night light bulbs in the hood which cost like $1 for 4 bulbs at the dollar store.
MAKE SURE if you go with the minibow 1 to get a sponge to jam on the end of the filter intake though. Your fish will probably like sleeping on it, and it will keep him from a quite possible grizzly filter death.
With a sponge on it though, my fish hang out on the sponges by choice.
Any kind of aquarium safe sponge would work though you would just need to go at it with scissors and make an x in it to slide onto the intake tube snugly. Fluval edge pre filter sponges just are ready to go, they are pretty nice looking imo... (info in case you use the filter)
Since you want it for QT you would want to have the filter out though. There is only one precut area in those tanks for the filter chord. The heater cord could go in that hole then, instead of out the back feeding hole in the hood.
If you were not concerned too much on it needing to be a tank Sterilite boxes work, so does just about any glass bowl that holds a gallon, people on here also use kritter keepers as tanks too.
