I'm diving in to say, "hello" and thank you all for such great information for newbies. My betta's name is Marty. His personality and curiosity is such a great surprise. He's such an uplift to my day!
I bought my male betta from PetSmart. Even though the sales kid said she was a betta owner, I feel after reading through many of the threads I got a lot of bad advice. I left the store with a one gallon tank, betta pellets, water conditioner and a plastic plant that ripped my Betta's fins and advise to change the water once a week.
The offending plant now sits outside his tank, and I do partial water changes every other day.
I'm cycling a new Eclipse corner 5 gallon tank that I'm trying to be patient about. His new tank has some soft artificial plants, one live anubias petite plant, a coconut cave and a floating betta log. (I tried some live horwort but all it did was break into a million pieces. I might try java fern later on.)
It took me forever to figure out how to register for this site (the secret word and all), and it's a relief to finally be here!
Best,
Julie
