I don't think he's ill but I know you'd probably feel better if someone else gave their opinion as well. If remember correctly you said nothing had changed except his color, Bettas can change drastically change color without being ill.

I hope that is all it is. I'm new to bettas and I would hate to lose any. I have lost a couple blue females recently in the community tank-rapid fin and tail rot-took them so fast I couldnt do anything to stop it.

This is one of the two blue females I lost with rapid fin and tail rot-24 hours and suffering sooo badly

Sorry they are bad pic because of the drip marks-there is a large round O over her entire dorsal area across both of her sides that completely covered her by the next day.
