I'm thinking about starting a 20 gallon sorority tank.
I was wondering about really easy to maintain beginner plants, also what type of bulb I should get for the plants to thrive and grow.
Also a bit off topic but what's a good amount of femle bettas in a 30 gallon.
Thank you all in advance!!
If want easy plants I suggest Cabomba, Jungle Val, Anubias Nana, Java Moss, and Amazon Swords. This is pretty much what I use in my planted tank with ferts, co2, root tabs for swords, T5 HO light, and eco complete substrate. I think 8-13 females would be ok for a 20g sorority. I like hornwart, giant duckweed, java fern, cabomba in my tanks as they are pretty tough and can handle this hard water.
Water sprite, wisteria, hornwort, duckweed, water lettuce, jungle Val's, cambomba (unlucky for me for some reason though) , anubias, java fern, java moss, moss balls... Lots of choices. Aim for medium light for these plants.
For light you want ~6500k (6700k is fine) flourescent "daylight" bulbs.
You could also do an inert substrate like sand or gravel (sand would be better for plants) and use fertilizers. You will need a water column fert and root tabs depending on your plants.
OR you could use a plant substrate like aquasoil, but I don't know anything about those.
