-RANT BEGIN- I just got into an argument with a petstore employee. We have this place near my home, it's called Animal Expert and BELIEVE me, they are NOT experts. The guy came to see me as I was browsing the aquariums and asked me if I needed help. I only said I was looking for maybe a 5 or 10gal for a betta. He then proceeded to tell me that Bettas don't need big tanks because they live in little puddles in the wild. I then proceeded to tell him that it was a myth that bettas should live in tiny aquariums. I asked if they had materials to divide a tank and he told me that dividing a tank was dangerous and that fishes die... ?!?!
When I asked him if a certain tank came with a filter he told me that bettas didn't need filters because they are not dirty. I started to tell him about how ALL fish eat and poop (LOL) and I argued for a couple of minutes that tiny tanks without filters or heaters are NOT good. He seemed angry at me for some reason when I told him that pretty much ALL the bettas they had at the store seemed sick or weak. I HATE IT when people don't know what they are talking about. -RANT OVER-
Agreed. I rally the silly girl at the store. She knows nothing, ALL fish die in her care at that store. I know so much about betta fish, and I know the myth of "living in puddles" I talked to a Thailand person, and he said YES they do but in the dry season (some bettas not all) and then when the rain comes they have masive amounts of water. Plus in the wild the tannins and the ground help with water quality... but a glass or plastic thing? never.
I would love to just buy one of the sickly bettas from the stores that tell you these things, take pictures of it, then bring it back in after a few weeks of living in a 5-10 gallon heated tank with the original pictures and show them just how much better they do in larger, heated tanks.
I've actually taken a video of all my Bettas I got sick from the local pet store and their set ups and took them into the store to show them off. The next day they had 2g Fluval tanks and 2.65g Marina tanks on sale, advertised as great Betta homes LOL I'm slowly working on my store. They were amazed with my set ups.
Like my Nemphis! He was in a dropsy tank (he was lucky to NOT have it!) and had severe fin rot. Now he has his own 10 gallon with a live plant, soft filter, and has super bright colors - one color of which is blue/green and is mettalic! There is not a soul in that store who knew his potential. He has beautiful fins, great colors, and is strong and healthy. I only rescue bettas from stupid stores like that now... Any fish or plants I order, or go to the city to a better store for. Rescue bettas are now my specialty Like Shiloh who was in a cichlid tank (GASP). gaaaahhhhh -rant steam-

Grrr...I personally went to pick up a liquid test kit for my tank. Lady (a vet tech no less and the owner of the store) told me that by putting my betta in a 10 gallon tank, I was slowly killing him and that he belonged in the tiny cups that they come in. She said she managed to kill all of her fish that way (by putting them in their individual tanks). I wanted to list the reasons why they would have died, but I told her that I am keeping my tank. "Fine. Do what you want. But I am warning you, you are slowly killing your fish."
Do not have a recent picture of him. That is Crayola in my avatar Nemphis still has a little fin rot but it is going away and he has spunk. He has a maroon head, purple and maroon mix body with irridescence of light blue bright blue fins ending in maroon. Just a VT, but he is happy basically him and a few others were and are my rescues. Ill advice from stores or just bad care from stores cause me to have a scarface betta, short fin males, fin rot males and chronic SBD male (friend's rescue from neighbor). When I have the space and the time I'm going to end up being a local betta breeder (better stock) just to supply living hardy and healthy fish! >< that and bettas are great

thank you Sena, i hope Nemphis gets better soon from the fin rot. i love crayola's colour pattern. that blue/green pattern on his fins is really something too. i love marble betta. just the fact that the colours will never be the same make it seen like i got a new betta while its not the case.
my movie has yet to start. my VT will eventually get a red wash, not too sure about Nelliel. he has some dark green on the base of the body but thats about it. i hope it spreads to the rest of his body and stops before the eyes. i think theres a few more spots near the base of the tail already. i'll have to find all those pics i took when he was blowing his tail to confirm. he does have a few more spots on the body that are barely noticeable pattern-wise.
KytKattin my friend was told she could only have 2 danios when she asked for 4. What a bad sale they made PLUS we are sending the danios back since in 2 they are stressed and vicious and I highly recommended to my friend not to attempt them with her super long tailed betta Crayola! That and one got ich because he was being bullied by the other danio. Stupid advice she got :/
And Nel that green would be lovely to see!
