I would recommend a adjustable heater, but in your case, you might as well get one of those preset heaters. I think the Zoomed heater pads are really good.
I've had pretty good luck with ZooMed's BettaTherm like SinX7 suggested. It fits under your bowl's substrate and comes with a suction cup for the cord so that it takes up minimal space. In my experience, it heats well and evenly.
Well, I tried one of those preset heaters in my 1 gallon, and it heated up my tank to about 90 degrees :shock:. I ended up switching that one to my 2.5 gallon, and using the Hydor Theo heater in my 1 gallon. It's a longish heater so you have to have a tall tank. My 1 gallon tank is one of those "Half Moon" tanks from Petsmart, so it's taller than it is long and the filter fits fine. It's adjustable so I set it at 78 and that's where it stays.
