Hello all, I was just wondering if anybody knows any Canadian shippers... "David" on Aquabid is charging me $105 total from Thailand to my house... Is this normal? All this guy does is MAIL the fish, meanwhile the poor breeder makes $20 off of this, WTF.
I haven't bid yet, Auction closes on Thursday... What to do... :/
I think the transhippers pay a set amount every time they get a shipment in, so if they're not getting very many they won't be able to split the cost as much

that is extremely bizarre. im waiting for my betta on AB to ship. i live in montreal and i'll have to go thru transhipper either way. he said h'ed charge me $20 from Thailand-Montreal. i will drive down to his house to pick it up. where do you live and what are the details of your purchase? i'm a first time buyer on AB. i only contacted him after i purchased the betta on AB.
his words exactly.
"Hi Jonathan, shipping cost from Thailand to me = 20$ for each betta and you can pick up bettas at my place.
"
I emailed him last night and he said $15 to Thailand Breeder and $90 for 6 fish. I asked for a single fish quote. Anyways, you may be stuck with paying whatever now. I don't believe your fish should come to $100 unless you bought the fish for $70 on AQ. If you are picking up the fish from him, he should charge you the fee for his services, but not any shipping fees. Stand up for yourself and ask for a detailed list of costs. You should only be paying fish+thailand ship+his fee for getting fish and thats it. If I got with Thailand, I'll be sure to look for another trans shipper.
Also, I just bought a Betta male from Montreal and I'm having it shipped to me on the Greyhound Bus (36h) and it cost me $30some dollars for shipping. Just to toss that in there.
Darn, I'm on the western side of Canada, and if it's that much just to ship to eastern Canada... hm. I would ask for a detailed list of costs, to be sure.
Hey guys, thanks for all your responses, I haven't emailed him back yet because I've been busy running errands. I will email him about a single fish price, however this was the original response I got for asking IN GENERAL the cost:
"Hi Zoe, yes you will pay the price of fish to seller and the shipping price to me: shipping from Thailand to me = 15$ for each betta and i will reship bettas to your address cost 90$ for up to 6 bettas ( can put up to 6 bettas in the same box for 90$)"
May have to ask David for a quote on singletons. I know the breeder I bought from charges $5 per extra fish shipping in Canada. So $30 for 1, $35 for 2, $40 for 3.... and $55 for 6. David does have handling fees and such though.
Holy crap. I have thought about getting a real beauty. That's the shipping price for one fish? Or more? I'm afraid to ask what he'd charge to ship to Newfoundland... *shudder*
Its pretty much the difference of a couple of dollars. As an example, I payed $30 for my boy to the breeder, and he is shipping him COD by bus to Nova Scotia for $29. I have no idea how it is for you though but I am sure it's like any other province. I got a cheaper shipping because we discovered Greyhound meets up with Acadian Lines. Sadly, the bus doesn't go to NFLD
You could always message those who trans ship to ask for a quote on shipping to your postal code, or message local breeders and ask just to prepare
I believe the $90 was for shipping 6 fish. Trans shippers have handling fees, box fee's and such they tack on to the final cost you pay them.
I really have no idea. But Canadian Breeders ask A LOT more for their fish than Thai breeders. I was just told it can cost most. It was almost $40 to ship 2 day courier, almost $60 for overnight within Canada. At least that's the quotes I got.
USA Trans shipper may also use USPS which is a lot cheaper to use than Canada Post. I know to send a small box 4 hours away cost me almost $20 for 3 day delivery. If I remember correctly, in USA shipping isn't so high.
Yep and we just got off a 1 week strike, I am thrilled to see how high the price of shipping could go in Canada to recoup the money they lost. Yeah, I'm such a highjacker of threads
