I currently have 2 betta in a 20 gal tank with a devider. The devider is clear but i have a piece if tank backing so they wont stress themselves out and a gap at the bottom so the temp can stay even. Sometimes they find eachother at the gap and freak out im wondering if i put other fish in with them if they will go and attack the other fish if they see each other. I do have another tank as a back up but i dont want another tank till i leanr alot more about what im doing.
I wouldn't leave a gap at all on the bottom. The circulation is probably poor anyway with so little area for water flow. Instead, I'd take the bettas and put them in bags temporarily while you take out the divider and drill holes in it. If you make many small holes and get rid of the gap they shouldn't be able to see/get to eachother and the circulation will be better. Hope this helps
