so i bought my fish pretty a new tank and he has been in it for a week now and he hates it just sort of lays there wont eat. so i put him back in his smaller tank and he went back to his old playful self and started eatting again...can fish get deppressed from changing tanks. Because i moved my other betta Ming into the tank and he loves it

did you cycle the bigger tank or test his water? if he had bad water parameters that could certainly be the cause of his disapproval.

also, did the tank have a filter with a high flow? he would have hated that as well.

other than that i cant really think why any betta wouldn't appreciate having more room for himself to consider his turf and boast around in. i noticed a drastic change when i bumped my betta up from his 1.5 tank (only used to keep him under observation fresh from the lfs to make sure he wasn't sick) and into the 10 gallon. he's building a wonderful bubble nest in the 10 gallon which i never saw any signs of in his smaller tank.

Was the new tank fully cycled? If not, this could well be the cause of his upset. Otherwise it could be that he just needed time to settle in.

i fill mine up to the black plastic that goes around the top edge of the tank, or just below.

Ammonia and nitrites should be zero whereas nitrates are visible unless you have plants in your tank.

What Lupin said in the pot above.

Or if you want more information, read the sticky on cycling in the Starting and Maintaining Section by Fish4All
