I've only owned one, he was shy for awhile but once he got adjusted he would just behave like any other betta.

I'm a big advocate for hiding places. Regardless of type bettas should have plenty of places to hide.

Aren't they the same as giants or half giants? I found a female at walmart of all places. I had her in a 20 gallon with 10 other girls. I always though she would be the trouble maker since she was 2-3 times larger then the other ladies but she never caused any trouble at all.

Other then eating more, she was acted the same as any other betta.

As far as I know they contain no giant genes.

Intersting...
do you get them by just breeding the largest out of each spawn?

I'm sure that's what it is. Most bettas I've imported from Thailand are roughly the size of kings.

One of these days I'll import a nice breeding pair from Thailand - but for now walmart rejects it is :)

I've been reading up. It appears there is no such thing as a simple gene for giantism. There are gene combinations which effect the timing or the expression of certain tendencies or characteristics, like the development of the thyroid and how much growth hormone it produces. This is the way it seems to work with most animals.

That's very oversimplified, but I'm doing as much research as I can without a background in genetics. I'll post a longer article when I feel I have a handle on it.
