MW and BBS Questions

I have questions about BBS and MW. Thank you in advance for your advice.

1. Have anyone use instance BBS or decapitated BBS?
2. About yeast for MW, do you keep it in the refrigerator or at room temp (bottle say best result keep in the frig).
3. Do you need light to hatch BBS (I prefer to keep water warm with the heater)? I do not use light. I do not feel safe to keep light on 24/7 to hatch BBS. Any suggestion thank you.

What I got is a warm 80F tank. I am thinking about place my BBS hatch into the tank with air bubbles and use no light.

Hi tan!

I've used decaps as a transition food from bbs to pellets. They fry love them.

I don't keep my yeast in the fridge, never had a problem.

I always get a better hatch rate on bbs when using no light and no heater. I tried the heater and light and got just a few hatched bbs. When using room temp water I get a lot of bbs.

I have also used Decap BSE(for all my spawns actually) and my fry enjoyed them aswell. ^^

I've never worked with MW(yet, looking for a culture at the moment), nor have I used hatching BBS(I got a sample of decaps once with a kit and have stuck to them since, don't want to drop money on hatch-able eggs if I can't try them first but don't know anyone locally who can give me a teaspoon or whatever to try hatching xD).

Sure thing! How are the MW cultures? Crawling up the sides yet?
Make sure you keep the sides damp so they can crawl up and you can harvest easily. I just get my fingers wet and splash some water in the container.

If you end up uising instant bbs, let me know how it goes.

I now have 4 MW cultures. I split what you give me into 1/2. My own culture also look healthy. Next I will try to hatch my testing BBS eggs. If the BBS eggs hatch ok, then I am ready to go.

Hi Bambi,

How old can betta begin to eat Decap BSE? Don't you ever hatch BBS for fry? I do not want to hatch BBS if I do not have too. Please advice. Thank you.

When hatching BBS, IMO it doesn't matter about light but you really don't need it or a heater. All I do is add water then mix in sea salt(Without Iodine) till I get 1.02 salinity and the PH 7.

The problem with going from live food (infusoria, mw, etc.) to decaps is that the fry might not eat it from the start and you could lose some from starvation.
I use bbs with a light on the top of the tank so the bbs swim on the surface and I mix bbs with decaps. The fry will start eating decaps and then I reduce change the bbs to decap ration until I have all decaps.
Fry can eat decaps if they can fit it in their mouths. I usually start them from week 2 to week 4 depending on how nice I want to be about offering live foods.
