Nail bucket for a betta home?

So my dad is putting new shingles on a house. He has one on those buckets of nails thats see-through. Its big, i dont know the deminsions but i'd say it holds 2-3 gallons. IF its big enough, could it work as a betta home? How could I clean it? Obviously I'd take the nails out first, but other than that i'm utterly clueless. Would it melt with a heater?

here is a picture one I found on Google

I don't think it will melt with a heater, the water won't be hot enough for that.
My concern would be about the chemicals the plastic will leak into the water.
Best plactic to use is that made for holding food for human consumption.

I'm with vilmarisv. Unless it is usable with human food, I don't use it with fish. It would make a great bucket for taking water away from your aquarium, but you would need something else to fill it back up.

But it IS food grade...

So after a little research, I found out that the same type of plastic (PP) that this is made of is used for Tupperware containers. Success!

Lol. I would leave water in it for a while, and then test it to see if any of them chemicals leeched into it, just to be safe. ^.^ (I've used stuff like this in the short term and always did that.)

I used a calculator, it's 2.7 gallons. Yay for the Internet!
