Clamp fin? Fin rot? or something harmless?

I (and my 3 year old daughter) are brand new Betta owners, we got Heartness 1 week ago.

I mistakenly took the word of the pet store clerk when I was advised that a half gallon cube was sufficient. After reading around on this site I was quickly corrected, A HUGE THANK YOU! He has been moved to a 10 gal conditioned, heated, filtered tank. Decorations and more plants will follow.

I do have a question that maybe someone can answer...
Our baby has a "bent" dorsal fin. When he flares the fin will fan out but seems to be limited by "dead" tissue. He has a huge appetite and does not seem to have any mobility issues. He has a great personality showing to us already. He is curious and has been blowing some great bubble nests.
I will post pics if I can.
Thank you in advance.

My Avatar pic is a blown up picture of what I was trying to describe, my profile picture is him blowing me a bubble. You can see his dorsal fin spread out a bit.

It could be just a deformity of sorts :o If it isn't hindering how he swims it should be fine~

It could be that they are clamped. DO the ends look like they are stuck together?

Fin rot would look like he has ragged fins that are usually outlined in black or sometimes red.

It is definitely not black rimmed, he has red fins so I can't tell if there is any redness around the edges.
He does hold the dorsal fin tight but not at all times, and when he does fan out the fin, the tip of it just hangs lifeless. The more that I watch it I tend to want to lean towards old "pet store" injury. When he moves from the top of the tank to the bottom it does help him to fan it out a bit more... I will just keep watching him I guess. There are far worse things in life to be "forced" to stare at for hours.
Thank you for the help.
