Same problem...still isn't any better...

So I have my male and my female. I have the female now in a separate 1 gallon tank and my male in my 10 gallon tank. Well, I want to breed them, but every time I put them together, the male is aggressive toward the female but not in a good way. The female just gets scared and swims away. I've tried raising the temp in the tank and adding live plants, but neither seems to work. The male keeps chasing the female around and flaring and trying to bite/attack her. I've tried many tips from the internet but none seem to work. Do you think it's the male or the female that is the problem?

Did you add elodea? I don't mean a couple of bunches, I mean "gobs". 8-10 bunches would be my suggestion. He wouldn't be able to attack what he can't find.

My new betta tanks consist of 3f/1m. The tanks are barren with sponge filters and "gobs" of elodea in 7 1/2g tanks. There are at least 8 bunches in each tank. I use them as floating plants. The fish seem to be thriving in it.

Sorry for the double post, but will this just make them stop fighting or will this help them breed as well? I've actually never heard of this before. Sounds handy.

I have Betta macrostomas and have just started the B. splendens. The elodea trick was given to me by a member of the aquarium society I blong to in Northern Indians. I was having much the same problem you are having. I took her suggestion and it worked.Not only did it calm the fish, the plants helped to anchor the bubblenest. I also believe that adding additional females helps to spread out any aggressiveness by the male.
