Frozen blood worms can help condition him.

Even then he may not build a nest until he needs it, or perhaps not even then.

I'm guessing that your male "couldn't" make a nest because your pump was on. It only takes little current from air pumps to dissolve their nests. Further you CANNOT use water pumps for newly hatched fry. If the current isn't too strong, perhaps you could use it after fry is a month or two.

I do not wait for the male to make nests. Some males are just plain lazy and won't bother making them. I rely on their swimming - what I call flirt swimming. If both flirt, you can release the female.

My latest batch of fry never did have a bubble nest, dad just spit them to the top and they stuck! LOL

Ok so the female has vertical stripes now. And the male is swimming around the female showing off. She is in a jar in the tank. He still has not built a bubble nest. There is no current now either. N the water temp is 83. What should i do

N there no nest.
Don't look at the nest as a sign
Look at the fish movement
