Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Yes, frayed tail, white spot - see image.
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Not too sure as I went away for a week and I returned to see he was looking messed up
When did you start noticing the symptoms? Today for me... not sure how long its been that way
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? no
Does your fish have any history of being ill? no, depressed a while back changed food and was fine
How old is your fish (approximately)? 6 months

It looks like ick and his tail also looks very frayed. But with ick you have to treat the whole tank x.x

This is a tricky one to answer... But, I will try my best.

For the tail;
Either he's a bit bored in the tank, and has been nipping at his tail due to boredom.

It could possibly be the start of the dreaded fin rot. If the tail/fins seem to be getting shorter or they seem to be falling apart and dissolving, then it's fin rot at it's finest. Get it before it gets worse because it gets ugly.

For the white spot;
It sort of looks like a scale got bit, or maybe he rub up against something the wrong way...
or
The spot could also be ick, usually ick however shows up as like salt on a fish, if you see anymore spots, it's definitely ick.
or
It could be the beginning of a fungal infection.

Sorry to scare you!

Recommendation; I would add aquarium salt to the water I believe it is one teaspoon per gallon (read instructions on aquarium salt to be safe). Remember to stir it up in a separate container before adding it to your aquarium. If things don't get better for your little guy, I would keep an eye on him to make sure what disease you would have to treat.
