Popeye?

So I left my betta for a weekend, and when I came back, I noticed his big shiny black eyes. I've had him for about a year and I don't know, they just seem, a little bigger to me. :/ It's possible I've been completely unobservant - but when I look at pictures of other bettas, Charlie's eyes seem bigger. Yet not as big as bettas with popeye. And his eyes are the exact same size. I've uploaded some photos...

Housing
What size is your tank? 2.5 g
What temperature is your tank? 80 F
Does your tank have a filter? yes
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? no
Is your tank heated? yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? A tiny apple snail. We're upgrading very soon to 6.6 gal.

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Hikari pellets
How often do you feed your betta fish? once a day, 3-4 pellets

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? once a week
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Just dechlorinater

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 15
pH: haven't checked it
Hardness: Haven't checked
Alkalinity: haven't checked

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Possibly larger eyes?
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? not at all
When did you start noticing the symptoms? uhhh.... maybe 2-3 weeks ago? That's when I at least noticed the large eyes. I could have just not realized it before though. I only recently began comparing his eyes to the eyes of other bettas.
Have you started treating your fish? no
Does your fish have any history of being ill? no
How old is your fish (approximately)? I've had him for a year and I got him as an adult

I know his fins look ragged - he had a bad run in with a filter - it's not fin rot. :)

Betta's eyes do stick out the sides like that, so they look pretty normal to me. Since you've been away, maybe your mind is tricking itself into thinking he looks different. Popeye usually only tackles one eye, and even if it did get both, they would be bigger than that.

OK, great. I do think I just all of a sudden noticed his beautiful big eyes and the worrier in me was concerned they might just be TOO big. Whew!
