how long to cycle tank with filter from established tank?

I'm trying to cycle a 20 gal tank and put a cartridge from my established tank (also 20 gal) into the filter. I have the same filter for both tanks and they each hold 2 cartridges. I had 2 in my old one so I took one and put it in the new filter (along with the new cartridge it came with). Fish are already in there so there is a new source of ammonia. How long should it take for the new tank to cycle?

Its hard to depends on the bioload, how long the old filter was used, bioload of the other tank...etc....

I would monitor water prams and make the needed water changes based on test results of ammonia, nitrite 0.25ppm or greater until you see nitrate of at least 5-10ppm without any ammonia, nitrite spikes for several days.

Usually if the old filter is pretty mature and the new tank has the same or smaller bioload as the other tank....usually a week or so....but this can vary...

Any live plants, type of substrate and how deep, bioload, what kind of test products are you using and water pram numbers of both tanks and your source water...also what kind of additives used....
