Henry's Changing Colour

Henry is changing colour. When we got him he was mostly pink with some (what I thought were) black spots. Now his body is becoming mostly dark blue and he has a couple of dark streaks in his tail. It's been a gradual change so we didn't notice it for a few days.

I have attached two photos of him, Day 1 and Week 2. He is in a 2.5ga tank with a heater and light. The temp ranges 78-82. My heater isn't adjustable, and I'm going to get a better one, but between the heater and the light, the water is kept at a minimum of 78. I'm doing water changes, tests etc. He seems perfectly happy. I have no idea how old he is but I imagine they don't last too long at Petsmart so he's probably not too old.

Max also seems to be changing, he's gone from a sort of grey to a deeper grey body with a blue/purple iridescent tail.

They both seem happy and after some initial issues with feeding Max and with Henry's tail (which I now think is probably due to a filter accident) they seem settled. Max is eating well and Henry's tail seems to be growing back together.

Should I worry?

eta - his body isn't shrinking, it's bad perspective from the tank and my iPhone app.

Lovely!

Most bettas are about a year old (asides from baby bettas who obviously, are babies)as they come from wholesalers. Usually it's 9-13 months. Looks like you have a marble!

No don't worry. It's actually a good thing, when Bettas are kept in poor conditions they're colors are dulled out, but when later kept in good conditions they slowly color up more, or in your case change colors.

:) It's pretty exciting isn't it?

Looks like a marble to me too! I didn't know about this color trait when I got my fish, but I do now. The boy in my avatar picture is now blue going on purple I get a new fish about once a month - he's my fish of a different color!

Henry continues to change color. His body is almost entirely blue/black and his fins and tail now have dark streaks. The other side of his body is much darker.

The tear in his tail is also starting to heal, though he flares *a lot*.

I wonder what the final color will be. If it will cover his entire body or just say "splogy"

It's totally fine and awesome! One of my bettas, Sarah, (R.I.P.) did that. He sure is a pretty marble.
It's actually pretty fun to watch em' change (:

Very pretty fish. His colors improving are a sign of good health and the marble gene.
