Elite Brand Heater

I just installed my Elite brand 25w heater for my boy's aquarium and it says that a pilot light should be on to indicate that its working. I turned the dial until the light went on but then it turned off on its own. It this normal or should I turn the dial a little more?

If it's at 78-80*, it's normal. The heater turns itself on and off to maintain a stable temperature.

Ah, that makes sense. Its keeping the water at a steady 85 degrees.

That's a little overwarm, I'd turn it down just a hair. My personal opinion is that bettas only need 78-80 unless they're sick.
