Reducing ammonia

Spikes ammonia levels have always been 0. With spikes recent surprise friend it rose to .5
I did a 30-40% change and vacuum.
I used NutraFin Cycle for the ammonia. It says "powerful responsive ammoni elimination".
I'd like the ammonia levels to permantely get back to 0. Or should it never have been at 0?

It should always be 0 or extremely close, but 0 is the super best. Avoid using chemical removers. Your best bet is to do a more thourough or more often water changes. Or change more water. If you really have to use something you could use ammonia removing chips in your filter.
