normal behavior?

SO at night sometimes I can't sleep so I watch what my betta(Fhil)is up to since his tank is by my bed. I've noticed he swims circles around the tank. This is normal I'm assuming? Is it like he's guarding his territory?

Where in the tank does he swim? Is he chasing his reflection in the glass, or is he just swimming in circles in the middle? Is he chasing his tail, potentially? Long finned bettas will sometimes bite off their fins if they're bored.

What size is the tank? What else is in there (decor, plants, etc)? There are a couple reasons he's doing this - he's chasing his reflection, which is normal but if it's dark that's probably not it (if you leave his tank light on at night though, it could be this), or he's bored.

Padan makes the rounds at around the same time each night. Usually within an hour or so of his usual lights-out time. He likes to patrol his half of the tank and make sure that he doesn't need to intimidate his reflection again. That reflection is apparently very uppity and just can't take a hint.

Tank surfing is perfectly normal :)

Buddha does it all the time, except he prefers one side of the tank over the other so he just goes back and forth

Ghost lives in a 4g sphere and he swims laps at night. I thought it was strange at first too. Glass surfing is a new one! I'll have to remember that.
