Inexplicable Death! PLEASE HELP

I'm sobbing right now. My boy, Merlotte, who I've had for over a year, wound up dead this morning. He's just floating, resting against a plant on his head at the bottom right now... I can't bear to look at him.

I've been giving him 50% water changes and salt treatment for the past 8 days to regrow his bitten fins. That's all I can think of that's changed. He doesn't look strange in any way! I did a test treatment of his water just a second ago and everything is perfect across the board. His tank is heated.

HELP. Please give me peace of mind!

It could have been anything really -- heart attack, or some other internal trauma -- but it's very difficult to tell without examination, old age -- it just catches up with them quicker than you think. It could have been a bunch of factors, maybe he had something wrong with him in the beginning, something you didn't notice. It's hard to say.

So sorry you lost him, he was a very pretty fella. You gave him all the love in the world, and he couldn't have asked for more. Don't be too hard on yourself, you have your other bettas to love on, and they need you.

The first time I tried to keep a betta, it got sucked up in the Marina i25 filter.
The second time I tried to keep a betta, it got sucked up in the Marina i25 filter.
The third time I tried to keep a betta, it got sucked up in the Top Fin 10 Power Filter.

I felt really bad. None lasted anymore than three days. You're not the only one.

Could have been old age, if you got him from the LPS. You never really know how old those bettas are. I'm sorry for your loss *hugs*.

Pet store bettas are 6 t 13 months old on average, so if you've had him for a year, I'd say the oldest he was would be about 2 years old. He may have had previous health conditions. I have heard of long-term salt treatments causing problems, though I believe them to usually be in regards to kidney issues. Were there any unusual markings on his body? I wonder if he had something internal.

So sorry for you lost. And it not silly cry over fish. I love my fish i would cry and be devastated if any of them would die.
How is your other boy doing? How many bettas do you have?
How big is your tank? How much, how often you do water changes?
What symptoms your other guy have?

Just read your post again. When you treat betta with aquarium salt you usually need to pre mix aquarium salt in 1 gall jug for the right dosage with water conditioner.You would need minimum dose of aq salt 1tsp/gall up to 3 tsp/gall depend on the symptoms. Not sure what the was his symptoms.

Now when you do treatment you need to do 100% water changes through not 50%.

What the symptoms your other guy have?
