MAJOR bloating

So I went away for a weekend, and when I came back, one of my bettas bellies was extremely distended. I was unsure how his belly got so big when I wasnt there to feed him. I was about to set him up in a quarintine tank when my mom comes to me and tells me she fed my fish. I was relieved because now I now what the culprit was. She said she fed them by following the directions on the container(people should really take those horrible directions off) well now both of my fishies are bloated. Theyre swimming hasnt been affected, but BJ is extremely lethargic and wont even come to the front of the tank when I approach it. His stomach is also much more distended than Fernando(my mom told me she fed him more than Fernando). So now its late at night, most stores are closed and BJ isnt feeling well. Is there anything I could do.

Fasting and Epsom salt treatment.. They both will be fine.. Sounds like bad case of over feeding combined with constipation. :)

The Epsom will speed it up but its not a must in your case.

Keep us updated :)

If I use Epsom Salt, do I need to do a water change before I put it in, Or do i just throw it in with them?

Dissolve the epsom salt, before adding. So do a water change, and with the water you add back mix in epsom salt and your conditioner then add to the fish's tank. This and a day of fasting should do them good :)

If you're still stuck, find Oldfishlady on the site. She has experience with this type of thing.

Basically when he's back to normal, continue treatment a few days afterwards to make sure. However, you shouldn't exceed 10-14 days if you do the full treatment.
